Baba's Words are but Divine Pearl String
Pearl is a precious jewel, which looks lovelier, happier and healthier. The pearls of words originated from the Ocean of Baba are a pleasant and lively source of happiness for mankind. Every word of Baba is an inexhaustible treasure of wisdom. We can acquire unlimited knowledge from that treasure. But we need to often recollect His pearl-like words of wisdom and meditate on them quite often. Always chanting His name, understanding His philosophy and contemplating His words, one can grasp the spiritual wisdom in Baba's sayings and teachings.
During the process of realizing the meaning of the sayings of Baba, in each such attempt we can unearth pearls of wisdom. Having understood them by the grace of Baba, we need to string each pearl of Baba's sayings into precious garland of wisdom. We need to store the pearl-like words of wisdom of Baba in the deepest recesses of our hearts. We should treasure His words as our life-breath. We must extract the essence of wisdom and apply it to our practical life with a discerning mind. The subtle difference between knowledge and wisdom should be explored and we need to plead Baba to equip with the ability to follow that priceless practical wisdom in our daily lives. We should glow as the light of wisdom and be able to enlighten and lead our fellow brothers and sisters in Sai Light.

Commit Yourself to Human Service,
And Receive Baba's Grace
People with devotion to God, love and sympathy towards all living beings will be always ready to help others. They never expect recognition from any one. They are very important to the society. Such great people are ordinary men in the beginning. They have not come down from the heaven all of a sudden. The deep desire to acquire a saintly behaviour, to spiritually reach a higher level and the willingness to accept such transformation are the forces that have influenced them to the core. When they offer themselves as boulders to the will of God, the Cosmic Sculptor carves out a marvellous statue. Once they surrender themselves to the Will of God and dedicate their lives to God, they will be transformed into angels of mercy and divine instruments of selfless service.
Baba took Bhagojee, who was suffering from leprosy, into His lap and enlisted Him as his trusted servant in His durbar. It is our primary duty to help those suffering from ill health. With love and sympathy we must nurse and care the bed-ridden patients. Baba likes such service of love. Some people lack the motto of service. How many are there who are willing to selflessly serve with love? The more we prepare ourselves for selfless service, the more we become dearer and go nearer to Baba.

Faith in God is Our Eternal Sheet-Anchor
God always watches us with thousand eyes. The merciful Father will not sink us in grief. But, now and then He tests our faith, patience and dedication. When troubles surround us, we hasten to accuse God. We doubt His quality of mercy. We fail to recognize the illusion created by God. The true devotee, with unshakable faith in God and who knows that God's ways are for his own good, is not shaken by sorrows or upset by hardships. One has to strive in order to attain the heights of honour. And will not God test us to assess how worthier and stronger we are to deserve His Divine Grace? Indeed, hardships take us nearer to God. Just as a piece of gold gets brighter when burnt in a furnace, so too adversities make us spiritually wiser and stronger.
Although subjected to several troubles and insults, the Pandavas and Draupadi did not lose their strong faith in Lord Krishna. One who is seriously injured in the accident would be surely healed if he thinks that Baba, his God is there to care for him. A confident devotee believes that Baba will pull him out from the bed-ridden state and make him stand on his legs. If we endure trials, troubles and tribulations cheerfully, we have passed God's tests and have gone nearer to Him. Faith in Baba is our sheet-anchor.

We Need not be a Millionaire to Give Charity
All the earthly riches are but a gift of Baba. In return for the gifts, Baba expects from us devotion, honesty, uprightness and self-surrender. Baba wants us to put the wealth, which He gifted us, in the service of the needy. It is charity. Charity is virtue. Only a few are blessed by Baba to have a heart of charity. Some people think that one can make a charity if one is very rich, but not when one has little wealth.
Baba explained through His noble deeds that riches are secondary but a desire to donate is vital. In fact, the spirit of sacrifice can be found in Nature itself. Rivers provide clean and fresh water. Trees bear the sweetest fruit and man being a part and parcel of nature must emulate the spirit of sacrifice. When we compare the pleasure obtained by the receiver with that of the happiness of the giver, the amount given in charity seems insignificant. Liberality awakens spirituality. Greed and selfishness cause poverty. Baba taught us the value of charity by explaining it in the simplest form, "give and grow richer". We need not be a millionaire to give charity. We can give away cheerfully whatever wealth we can afford to give and Baba will increase our riches. Baba's grace will not only multiply our worldly wealth but blesses us with the spiritual wealth of merit and ever-new joy..

Love is......
Love is trust, faith, help, sharing, enthusing, encouraging, understanding, compassion and feeling with a human touch and praying. Love in different forms is infinite. Love is something that cannot be expressed in words and it is an overflow of feelings. It is a feeling that stimulates, activates and makes the heart and mind swing in cool delight. Love always fills the heart with sweet feelings and makes us feel that the future will be happier.
Love is one of the basic needs of humans. Love is a mode of service. Love, indeed, is a spiritual feeling that vibrates in every atom of our being. Although love is a feeling of the heart, it is manifest in our conduct. Love never counts the stars and planets. It flows ceaselessly from the heart of a sincere person. There is nothing that can match love which is priceless and self-sacrificing in nature. Love will not harm anyone. Love is something that prefers to suffer and to serve others. Love is courage. Love means total sacrifice. Love is not ephemeral but eternal. The joy of love will be experienced sooner than later. Love forgives the faults of others. Humility is the heart of Love. Where there is true love, there is total obedience. Our devotion to Baba, who is the Divine Love Incarnate, is an expression of our love to Baba...

We become Obedient by getting rid of Arrogance
We cannot understand God owing to our deep-rooted pride and arrogance. Our pride and arrogance obstruct us from attaining the highest state of total surrender to God and to plead, 'I have none other than You. I take refuge in you. You, the Omnipresent One, please protect me by showering Your grace on me'. We cannot get the grace of Baba with an ego-bloated mind. All our troubles and losses are only meant to release our minds from the hold of arrogance. It is but natural for humans to lose faith in God when something goes against their will.
When we do not make an effort to remove our vices, they cause troubles and totally pollute our psychic energy. Although, at times, we feel like making our heart stone-like to withstand pains caused by these bad qualities, it is not the right solution. Our hearts need to get more softened. All our troubles and problems would then melt in it. However, not every day would be the same always. One who prides himself that he does not require anyone's help as long as he is physically fit may be forced one day to rely on others and seek their help, much against his ego, if he falls seriously sick. Likewise, in times of adversity, many would pray to Baba, 'I have none else but You the Saviour'. Instead of waiting for troubled times to come, is it not wise to seek Baba's shelter and grace while everything is in good order.

The Method of Conducting 'Satsang'
Out of several methods of worshipping Sri Sai Baba, Satsang is important. Once in a week, all devotees will assemble in a devotee's house. They place Sai's picture in full view of all, garland it and wave the tray of camphor-lit lamps. By recollecting the divine leelas demonstrated to His devotees by Sai and knowing that there is no difference between Baba and His picture, the devotees sincerely pray to Him to grant His direct presence, thereby pray thrice in a joint chorus, as "Ever happy, noble and Perfect Master Sainath Maharaj! Hail to Thee!" Then, for a minute, all the devotees focus their minds on Sai and have direct communion with Him. Thereafter, one or two chapters from Sri Sai Satcharitra, are read out so that the hearts of the devotees gathered there would get attuned to Sai Consciousness.
The entire group will sing chorales by recalling Sai's Divine Glory in the just read out parts of Sai's story, and thereafter focus and install Sai's image in their hearts. After the bhajans, naivedya is offered, holy camphor lit, arathi sung and the sanctified food is distributed to all. Satsang must be held in such an austere manner that even the poor should be able to hold it in their homes. Satsang gradually intensifies love for Baba. Let us do Satsang, make others conduct it and let the family tree of Baba branch out million-fold and flourish.

Reaching Baba's Presence is Life's True Glory
God has created millions of species in this wonderful world. Is not the human life the worthiest of all creatures? Those who have equal amount of sin and merit are born as humans and have an opportunity of attaining liberation of soul. We have to realize the truth that the very purpose of human life is to reach God. For the ennoblement of the human soul, God has laid down the four values of Dharma (righteousness), Artha (wealth), Kama (desire) and Moksha (liberation). Man has to practice the values of Artha and Kama through honest means. The highest goal of life is liberation. We succeed when the Divine Grace supports our human effort.
It is painful to note that we waste our unique wisdom in the pursuit of earning only material wealth. Baba, the Divine Love Incarnate, descended on the earth to elevate and enlighten our souls. We seek renunciation once our domestic duties are discharged in the righteous manner. The Vedas declared that by treading the path of wisdom, the liberation of our souls is ensured. Even Baba fulfils the mundane desires of people who approach Him, equips them with the spiritual wisdom and finally blesses them with Moksha. When we listen to the stories of Sai or sing in praise of His glorious deeds, our pride is humbled and sins get wiped away and we attain Self- Liberation.

Sainath's Sleeping Posture was a Great Wonder
Sai Baba used to sleep in the Masjid. Nanasaheb Dengley, a disciple, arranged for a wooden plank for Baba to sleep on it. Baba tied it with old shreds or rags and hung it like a swing to the rafters of the Masjid. He would lit four oil lamps and keep them on the four sides of the plank before going to bed. The way Baba slept on that suspended plank looked incredible and miraculous to the villagers of Shirdi. A large number of people used to throng the Masjid to have the sight of Baba climbing the plank and sleeping on it. But no one was able to notice when Baba got up the plank or got down off it. Annoyed at people crowding the Masjid to see the way He slept, Baba broke the plank and threw it into fire.
Later on, Kaka offered to make another bed. But by that time Mhalsapathy also used to sleep in the Masjid. Kaka offered another cot to Mhalsapathy too. Baba said "Those who can open their eyes and sleep will alone be able to step on to that bed. Mhalsapathy could not do that. I can't leave Him alone and sleep on the cot" saying so Baba refused it. Later, Baba began to sleep in the chavadi on alternate days. He would personally spread fifty to sixty blankets on the floor and sleep on them. Baba, who is Ever-Watchful of caring His children, is Ever-Awake. Indeed, His state of sleep is Ever-Awake State.

Let us Swing With Baba In The Cosmic Cradle
There on the branches the Cuckoo sings a song
Adding chorus, a mango sapling is humming
The cradle hung down by Baba is fondly calling
A call to the children to engage in playing
On the lap of Baba, children rest swinging
Saying, "cradle-swinging-cradle -swinging"
A cradle to the father is but the Universe entire
His Universe is but children even at this juncture
With a pure heart and ill-feelings towards none
Mother, Father and Master is Baba, All-in-One
Let us transform into children playful
And reach the lap of Baba delightful.

The Five Elements at the Command of Baba
God initially created the five elements before He created the Universe. They are very vital to creation. The sky, wind, fire, water and earth are the five creative elements to be venerated. We respect the Mother Earth. Only when the five elements maintain balance, coordination and calm, all beings can live in peace and order. If not, earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, thunder storms will frighten us.
When the five elements raise their heads and unleash fury, mankind would firmly hold on to the Divine Feet. The inhabitants of Shirdi did the same thing. They believed that Baba was an ordinary Fakir who sat under the neem tree. When rain caused havoc with lightening, thunder and fierce wind, a few true believers flocked Baba. True to their faith in Baba, He controlled the nature's fury with ire-filled eyes. The weather became calm again. In the horizon, the Sun God burst into light. Baba's aura evenly spread out like the sunlight. The faith in Baba among the masses gained strength. When the tongues of flame in the Dhuni, fire-place, leaped up, Baba controlled them with a stroke of His Satka, a small stick. Baba, the Creator of the five elements, commanded them to calm down for the welfare of the people. We, the children of God, should similarly inculcate the spirit of kindness and work for universal welfare.

God Loves Helping the Needy with Compassion
The heart of those who adore God will be full of love. That love is God. When we see people starve, our heart melts with pity and we yearn to feed them. Mercy and sympathy are qualities inherent in all. We cannot keep quiet and let the miserable suffer. But selfishness halts our sense of charity and willingness to share our wealth with the needy. Selfless service and pure love shown towards mental patients and handicapped people, in fact, is service to God. Serving the needy is virtue. Doing evil to others is sin. Where selfishness raises its ugly head, God will not dwell there. God, the pure form of love, always thinks of the welfare of His children.
The testimony to our love towards God is to transform our inner love into spirit of service and serve the society, which is nothing but the manifestation of God. We may not participate in every service. But, presenting a good book to a devotee who conducts 'satsang', supplying rice where people are feeding the poor, donating free medicines to a charitable hospital would all mean a true expression of our love. Baba loves such service. We would become true devotees of Baba only when we have the motto of service along with love and put it in real practice. The Merciful Baba would certainly bless all those who acknowledge that 'service to humanity is service to the Divinity'.

Arathi to Sai Baba
Our tradition is to offer Arathi - the ceremony of circling a tray of lights before a saint or a deity at the end of worship while chanting a hymn. It is offered as a sign of surrender of soul to God who protects the universe. The holy camphor is synonymous with God and people respect it. In Shirdi, Arathi is given four times a day to Baba amidst the holy chants and playing of musical instruments.
At dawn, the devotees pray to Baba as Father, Mother and Guru and offer Kakada Arathi by lighting a lamp with five oil-doused wicks. They seek His blessings and protection. At 12.00 noon, Akhand Arathi is offered in a similar manner and the sanctified food is partaken. At dusk, praying for serenity, they offer Dhoop Arathi with only one wick. This is also known as evening twilight Arathi. Sej Arathi is offered at 10' clock in the night after the devotees have completed the day's work from morning to evening. They offer the Arathi with five oil wicks and dedicate the day's deeds, seeking forgiveness for any mis-deeds done and rest in the cool shade of Baba's grace. Baba's face that normally glows with the natural kindness will be sparkling like the combined Sun-Moon glow at the time of Arathi, assuring and raising His protective hand for the Universal Well-Being.

Cast Your Burden on Baba and He Will Bear it
Baba will show an easy path to people who feel life burdensome. God will not put burdens on our shoulders which we cannot bear or troubles which we cannot pass through. If the faith in God is proved to be true, He not only gives us the strength to bear the burden happily but will clear the hurdles. He enthuses us to forget tiredness. Although our path is full of thorns, bushes and pits, with an unbearable load on the head and even if none comes to our help, it is enough to go ahead by thinking of God. He takes care that we will not fall down, that our legs will not get hurt by thorns and bushes and thus makes the load lighter by lending us His Invisible Hand. We wonder whether we were really shouldering the burden when we cast it on Baba. Baba will guide us and we can be care-free.
When Baba, the Heavenly Father, who protects those who repose faith in Him is with us, where is the need to fear? Baba is the Ocean of Compassion who takes everyone in this world into His arms and treats them with love. Baba is the nectarine cloud that rains incessant love. Those who get soaked in that nectar of Baba's love will acquire the capacity to endure any pain or trouble by the grace of Baba. We should, therefore, cast our burdens on Baba who would protect His devotees from all kinds of troubles and hardships, fears and anxieties.

Our Duty is to Show the Path of Light
A wise man will understand the divine ways of God and will walk in the right path. One who does not discriminate between good and bad of his actions will tread the dark path of ignorance. The person moving in the right path will try to bring even the one in darkness into the bright path. A person travelling in the night, for a safe and secure journey, has to follow the one who holds a torch. If possible, he has to lead another person by holding his hand. So, man should first practice the Presence of God. To realize God, one must have the grace of God. Therefore, we should implore with faith and devotion 'Baba! Please help me'. Baba will bless those who earnestly seek Him.
In the path lit by the Light of Divine Wisdom, a person could easily cross over the dark sea of worldly life. It is our bounden duty to share with all, the wonderful stories of Baba that give delight and sense of immortality. Dasganu Maharaj spread the joy he experienced by Baba's grace in the entire state of Maharastra in the form of stories, narrated in song and made several people purified in the stream of Sai devotion. Self-Realization Only Through Baba's Grace
Baba is the manifestation of Absolute Reality. He bestows on us Self-Liberation. He is the Almighty One, who can grant us the Divine Presence, liberates us from the cycle of birth-death-rebirth and blesses us with Godhood. The Holy Trinity, viz., Brahma-Vishnu-Maheswara respectively represents creation, sustenance and destruction. The blessed couple Sage Athri and Anasuya prayed to God for a son who embodies the Trinity of God. Then, the spirit of triumvirate combined into one incarnated as Dattatreya on the Earth, with the mission of destroying ignorance and leading the humanity towards self-realization. Thereafter, in the Kaliyuga, Dattatreya incarnated in several forms like Sripada Srivallabha, Nrusimha Saraswathi, Manik Prabhu, Akkalkot Maharaj, Sai Baba and has been enlightening the human mind. When we seek Baba's grace, our sins get absolved and ignorance wiped out.
Similar to the cluster of clouds getting dispersed by the gust of wind, the love of Baba will dispel all our sins. People blessed with Baba's Love will witness their lives filled with the light of delight as a wonderful gift of Baba. It is certainly a great experience to know Baba's philosophy which is a treasure of joy. Indeed it is our great fortune to realize that Baba is our Friend, who guides us and the Father who always protects us.

Our body is the Temple of Soul
The wise say that the body of man is the Temple of Soul. We have to clean and purify our body to make it fit for God to dwell in it. He would not stay in the sky or in the distant heaven. He would remain where the saints, the devotees and the soft- hearted people pray, meditate and worship Him. A temple does not mean a big structure. The pure heart of devotees is the real temple. Hence, we should live by chanting God's Name and singing His Glory. There is no need to carry head-load of brick and stone to raise a huge building as a house of worship for Baba. He would appear before the faithful and the upright wherever they gather and meditate on Him. It could be a small room, a hallway, a four-way junction or still be a river bank or even under a tree in the forest.
To invite Baba into our hearts, devotion and faith are necessary, but not incantation of mantras. There is no need for a building built of brick, stone and mortar but a heart with patience and faith is enough for Him to dwell. Human heart itself is a sacred temple raised for Baba to dwell in. Let us install Baba, the Merciful Father, with love and dedication, in our purified hearts. He would keep all His devotees in His heart. The heart of a devotee is full of Baba's Love and His Form, while Baba's heart is an assemblage of His devotees.

Happiness Unbounded
Man always wants to be in a state of happiness. He would develop petty desires and aspirations and is elated when they are fulfilled. He gets delighted to see the plant raised by him starts budding. If a child gets through the exam, joy of parents knows no bounds. These are little joys. At play, a kid would talk at length to his dolls. He would store many such articles with love and care which we consider worthless. We laugh at the child's behaviour, because we know that the things he stores have no value. In our eyes the boy is innocent and ignorant.
Are we not accumulating wealth in the form of houses, land, plots by selfishly thinking all the while about our family and earnings? Having earned all the assets, are we going to remain here forever? No, never! We are the children of God. He would think of our behaviour as "childish" and laughs at us. So, we must realize that pure bliss is not found in these perishable material objects but in the divine presence which is eternal. That is the ocean of bliss and what flows through it is ambrosia of love. Is not life worthless when we do not strive to partake of the bliss? Baba used to chuckle "My Treasure is stacked with jewels of wisdom but there is none to take it". The essence of human life is to reach God who is the other form of pure bliss. Let us pray to Baba to bless us with deep desire to reach Him.

The Wretched and Miserable would rise into Plenty of Joy and Happiness as soon as they climb the Steps of Dwarakamayi
The Masjid in which Baba stayed is named as Dwarakamayi. The word "Mayi" means 'mother'. Hence, people get motherly love, kindness, good treatment and blessings there. For a mother, all children are alike. Thus, for Sai, the Divine Mother of Dwarakamayi, all the species of the universe are equal. In the lap of love of Sai Mother, all are treated equally.
A lot of meaning is implied in the reassurance of Baba that people get riches and happiness the moment they step into Dwarakamayi. Baba lit Dhuni, the holy fire which burns forever with an objective that whether He is alive or not, the sins of devotees and the hapless would get burnt up in it. He planted basil in front of the masjid. For Hindus, basil and fire are very holy. Masjid is a house of worship for the Muslims. Thus, Baba named the structure "Dwarakamayi" as a symbol of religious harmony. Dwarakamayi is the door-way to self-liberation. Come! Dwarakamayi is ready to offer what all you wish. Just like the possessive mother, "Dwarakamayi" protects her children and eagerly awaits to shower unbounded love. Baba uttered with great love, "Be it the hapless or paupers, they become prosperous and joyous the moment they climb the steps of Dwarakamayi".
